Enable Picture-in-Picture on PikaShow for Samsung

Picture-in-Picture (PiP) lets a video continue in a small floating window while you use another app. On a Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet, this can be useful when checking messages, browsing cricket scores, or looking up a cast member while a film or web series keeps playing.

PikaShow is a third-party Android streaming application, so PiP behaviour can vary between APK releases and Samsung One UI versions. The feature may work immediately, require a permission change, or be unavailable if the particular video player does not support Android’s floating-window system.

On many Galaxy phones, the relevant path is Settings > Apps > Special access > Picture-in-picture. Select PikaShow and switch on Allow picture-in-picture. On some One UI versions, the same option is listed under Settings > Apps > the three-dot menu > Special access.

After changing the permission, fully close PikaShow from the Recent apps screen and open it again. Start a video, let the content play for several seconds, then press the Home button or swipe up from the bottom of the screen. If the player supports PiP, the video should shrink into a movable window.

Use the Home action rather than the Back button. Back commonly exits the player or returns to the previous page, while Home tells Android that you want to leave the app without stopping compatible media. The floating window can usually be dragged towards a corner, resized by pinching, or temporarily hidden at the edge of the display.

Adjust the video player and app settings

Some PikaShow releases include their own playback preferences. Look for options such as external player, background play, floating video, or hardware acceleration. The names and locations can change between versions, and an APK may not include the same controls as another release.

If the built-in player does not enter PiP, try an available external player only when the stream and app support that arrangement. A compatible player may offer better controls, but installing several unknown video players increases privacy and security risks. Download Android apps only from a source you trust and review the requested permissions before installation.

Settings worth checking

Battery optimisation can interrupt playback when the screen is off or another app is active. Temporarily setting PikaShow to Unrestricted under Settings > Apps > Battery can help identify the cause. This may increase battery consumption, so it is better treated as a diagnostic step rather than a permanent requirement.

Troubleshoot a missing floating window

If PiP still does not appear, restart the Galaxy device and try another video. Clear the app cache through Settings > Apps > PikaShow > Storage, then reopen the application. Clearing data may remove preferences or saved information, so use it only after recording any settings you need.

Samsung’s gesture navigation can also make the action less obvious. Start playback, swipe up slowly from the bottom of the display, and wait for the Home screen to appear. With button navigation, press the physical or on-screen Home button once. If the video closes instead of shrinking, the app or current stream probably has no PiP support.

Common causes of failure

A black or frozen PiP window can result from hardware acceleration or codec compatibility. Try switching the player’s hardware acceleration setting, if available, and test a lower video quality. On older Galaxy phones, HD playback in a floating window can also place extra pressure on memory and battery.

Manage data, battery and screen behaviour

A floating video continues using data while you read, shop or travel. This matters on Australian mobile plans, particularly when streaming during train trips in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane outside reliable home Wi-Fi. Lowering the stream quality can reduce data use and help the phone remain responsive.
